KRIGA –aka K-ARTS–Keynote Lecture
KRIGA (Korea National University of Arts Korean National Research Institute for the Gifted in Arts) was established in 1993 by Ministry of Culture and Tourism as part of a ‘Ten-Year Project for the Cultural Development of Korea.” In the beginning of July KRIGA held a symposium at the National Museum of Korea (https://goo.gl/maps/
Creativity, discovery, innovation, and ideation, or whatever you want to call it, is a need to know something that you do not know. If you are seeking an idea, solution, or image, that doesn’t yet exist, that is particular to the project, problem, and work in front of you, then scanning existing knowledge for an answer will not provide the answer. Every discovery is relational; and is suspended by an unresolved set or field you’ve collected, made, and gathered from the world. This field elicits intentions in moments that take breath away, that inspire, that clear away what you thought you knew, but you do not know. Within the clearing is a confirmation of something else: a discovery suspended.
KRIGA is an ambitious project–and is off to an auspicious life, at 26 years old. More about KRIGA from Wikipedia: “The university consists of six independent but correlative schools: the School of Music, the School of Drama, the School of Film, TV & Multimedia, the School of Dance, the School of Visual Arts, and the School of Korean Traditional Arts. K-ARTS offers bachelor’s and master’s degree program while providing pre-school training program for promising young students. As of 2003, students enrolled in K-ARTS are about 2600, and more than 730 professors and lecturers are teaching in the newest studios and classrooms.”
